The recent data from The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) regarding Antibiotic Stewardship Programs (ASPs) has demonstrated that programs dedicated to improving antibiotic use can enhance the treatment of infections as well as reduce adverse events associated with antibiotic use.
Antibiotic stewardship is a coordinated program that promotes the appropriate use of antimicrobials (including antibiotics), improves patient outcomes, reduces microbial resistance and decreases the spread of infections caused by multidrug-resistant organisms.
Multi-drug resistance is a global problem and it is our responsibility to take action now! For more information on starting an ASP in your facility view this resource from the CDC.
