CommCare® Corporation (CommCare) has owned and operated skilled nursing and rehabilitation centers throughout Louisiana since 1994. Services include stroke rehabilitation, post-joint replacement, specialized skin and wound care, pain management, cognitive and perceptual retraining, podiatry services, respite and vacation care, ophthalmology services, dental services and 24-hour nursing care.



The Challenge

CommCare planned to deploy PointClickCare®, the premier EHR platform for the long-term post-acute care (LTPAC) industry, at 12 of its facilities. The company’s executive leadership called on Richter to custom-configure and implement PointClickCare to enable financial and clinical utilization at each facility, then train users on effective utilization—all within a very aggressive timetable.

The Solution

Richter maintains a dedicated division of certified EHR trainers and implementers, each with more than 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry. The firm delivers system conversion, project management and implementation services for all major LTPAC and senior living EHR platforms. And, as a Strategic Alliance Partner with PointClickCare, Richter is equipped to handle all aspects of its Clinical, Financial and General Ledger/Accounts Payable, IRM (Inquiry and Referral Management), POC (Point of Care), eMAR, eInteract and Eligibility Verification functionality.

Richter successfully met CommCare’s project requirements – from custom-configuring PointClickCare financial and clinical modules to deploying the system in each of the 12 facilities, then providing training and ongoing support—all within budgetary and time parameters. Specifically, Richter configured the PointClickCare Collections module to help CommCare’s financial staff set up contracts and payers correctly and embrace PointClickCare’s proven workflow process .

The Results

In the months following deployment, CommCare realized a more than 60 percent increase in financial efficiency as a result of the newly configured system, the training that Richter provided and the financial staff’s optimization of PointClickCare and its workflow.
While the initial ask was for EHR implementation services, Richter’s LTPAC performance advisors engaged CommCare’s leadership in discussion early on to learn more about CommCare’s existing financial and clinical processes. This led to comprehensive financial and clinical process reviews that yielded recommendations for improvements throughout the organization.

From a financial standpoint, Richter was subsequently retained to provide accounts receivable (AR) recovery and resolution services that enabled CommCare to move outstanding balances off their books and transition cash into the bank. CommCare then engaged Richter for comprehensive and ongoing revenue cycle management services.

In the clinical arena, CommCare also utilized Richter’s clinical consulting services—specifically around Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) training and an array of other clinical challenges.
